Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol Poised for Union Cabinet Induction
Reported by Tikam Shekhawat
Pune, 9th June 2024: Newly elected Pune Lok Sabha MP Murlidhar Mohol is likely to be inducted into Narendra Modi’s Union Cabinet. Reports indicate that Mohol received a phone call from the Prime Minister’s Office inviting him to take the oath as a minister, prompting a flurry of congratulations.
The Pune Lok Sabha seat had been vacant for the past year following the death of MP Girish Bapat. In the recent Lok Sabha elections, Mohol was elected with a vote margin of 1.23 lakh, securing his position as a Member of Parliament. Despite the BJP’s overall loss in Maharashtra, reducing its seats from 23 to nine, Mohol of Pune and Udayanraje Bhosale of Satara were the only two candidates elected in Western Maharashtra.
Initially, there were no expectations for Mohol to receive a ministerial post. However, the changing political landscape in the state has increased the likelihood of his appointment. As a prominent Maratha candidate, Mohol’s importance has grown, particularly with the upcoming state assembly elections.
Currently serving as the regional general secretary of BJP for Western Maharashtra, Mohol has been active in expanding the party’s influence across five districts, including Pune, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur, and Solapur. His appointment as a minister is seen as a strategic move to boost the BJP’s presence in West Maharashtra and to signal the party’s support for the Maratha community amid the ongoing Maratha reservation movement.
With the assembly elections on the horizon, Mohol’s potential induction into the Union Cabinet could play a crucial role in shaping the BJP’s fortunes in the state.
