Pune: MSEDCL Unearths Unauthorized Electricity Consumption Worth Rs 83 Lakhs In Single-Day Campaign In Western Maharashtra
Pune, 8th November 2023: In a concerted effort to curb electricity theft and unauthorized consumption, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) conducted a special campaign in Pune Regional Division, revealing illicit practices at 1251 locations in a single day.
The crackdown resulted in the identification of 993 cases of electricity theft through illegal hookups or meter tampering, with 258 instances of unauthorized electricity consumption.
Under Section 135 of the Indian Electricity Act, MSEDCL is taking criminal action against those involved in electricity theft who fail to pay fines and restitution amounts. The campaign, led by Regional Director Ankush Nale, aimed to address distribution and commercial losses due to power theft.
The special campaign covered Pune, Solapur, Satara, Sangli, and Kolhapur districts, with senior officials joining Regional Director Nale in the initiative.
A total of 1251 instances of unauthorized electricity consumption were detected, amounting to Rs 82 lakh 42 thousand. The breakdown includes Pune district (578 cases, 46.15 lakhs), Satara (92 cases, 7.34 lakhs), Solapur (274 cases, 13.38 lakhs), Kolhapur (98 cases, 6.75 lakhs), and Sangli district (209 cases, 8.80 lakhs).
