Pune Municipal Corporation to Collect Roadside Garbage at Night for Eight Days

Pune, 14th January 2025: The garbage that is seen on the roads of Pune in the day will now be collected at night. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) administration has started preparations for this initiative. Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kadam, in charge of the Solid Waste Management Department of PMC, stated that garbage from the city’s roads will be collected during the night shift for the next eight days.
Many areas in Pune are littered with garbage in the morning, despite repeated warnings from the PMC not to throw waste in the open. Citizens continue to dispose of garbage in public spaces, often in difficult-to-reach areas even when bins are not available. The amount of garbage thrown on the streets is more significant at night.
While the PMC administration takes action against those who litter, they face challenges in addressing nighttime disposal. In recent days, the administration has closed many such dumping spots and planted trees after cleaning these areas.
PMC has acquired 81 new vehicles for garbage collection, distributed according to regional office demands. These vehicles are equipped with speakers for public awareness. The total fleet now consists of 351 old and new garbage trucks.
The PMC administration is planning to collect the garbage dumped on the roads exclusively at night. In the coming week, drivers and employees will be available for nighttime collection. After this trial period, garbage collection will shift entirely to nighttime operations, aiming to keep city roads clean during the day.
Deputy Commissioner Kadam emphasized that the PMC administration will continue to take punitive action against those who throw garbage in the open. He urged citizens not to litter and warned that concerned officials would take action against offenders.
