Pune Municipal Elections: Kharadi Residents Seek Written Guarantees for Poll Promises

Kharadi, 24th December 2025: With elections approaching, residents and housing societies in Kharadi have come together to demand greater accountability from political candidates by insisting on written affidavits for electoral promises and adherence to banner-free campaigning.

During recent discussions among residents, a long-standing grievance was reiterated: ahead of every election, candidates announce ambitious promises and release attractive manifestos, but once elected, little progress is seen on the ground. To address this gap between promises and performance, several housing societies in Kharadi have decided that they will extend support only to those candidates who are willing to submit affidavits legally backing the commitments made during their campaigns.

Residents say the move is aimed at ensuring seriousness and accountability, making it easier to question elected representatives if promised works are not implemented. “Affidavits will make candidates think twice before making unrealistic claims,” a resident said.

Another major demand raised by citizens is strict adherence to banner-free public spaces, in line with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) rules and the Model Code of Conduct. Residents pointed out that even before the election schedule is formally announced, banners and hoardings have begun appearing in public areas, allegedly in violation of existing regulations.

“How can voters trust candidates who openly flout the law even before getting elected?” residents questioned, adding that respect for civic rules should be a basic qualification for those seeking public office.

Residents believe that candidates who follow the law, support a banner-free city, and are willing to bind their promises through legal affidavits are the ones truly deserving of public support.

The citizen-led initiative reflects a growing shift in Kharadi from emotional voting to a more informed, responsible, and accountability-driven approach to democracy, as voters seek measurable commitments rather than mere electoral rhetoric.
