Pune, 10th April 2023: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), and Communist Party of India (CPI) had their national party statuses removed by the Election Commission of India (ECI), respectively, today (10th April).

This is said to be a big blow to the Mahavikas Aghadi after the party’s symbol and name were changed. Discussions have also started that this is a blow to senior leader Sharad Pawar.

The Karnataka High Court ordered the ECI to make the necessary rulings by 13th April regarding the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) national party status last week.

After their performance in the Lok Sabha elections that year, the ECI sent show-cause notices to the three parties in July 2019, requesting an explanation of why their national party status should not be revoked.

According to a report submitted by the ECI, the NCP is said to have been stripped of its status as it had only 16 per cent dominance in Maharashtra, 54 out of 288 seats, and a lower performance percentage elsewhere.
