Pune, 30th May 2024: A case was registered against NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad at Bundagarden police station late last night for allegedly tearing down a photograph of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar during a protest in the Chavdar Tala area of Mahad in Raigad district.

The complaint was filed by Bhimrao Baban Sathe, 48, a resident of Kondhwa and the president of the Pune City Scheduled Caste Morcha of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The protest was in response to the inclusion of two verses from Manusmriti in the educational curriculum, a move that has ignited significant political controversy.

During the protest on Wednesday, it was reported that Awhad tore down a photograph of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, which led to widespread criticism. Although Awhad has apologized, stating that the incident was unintentional, Sathe contends that Awhad’s actions were divisive and hurt the sentiments of Ambedkar’s followers nationwide.
