Pune, 20th May 2023: The central government decided to remove Rs 2,000 notes from use on Friday (19th May). Due to this, citizens will have to deposit all these notes in the bank by September 30. Today, members of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) carried out a protest in this regard in front of the RBI office while chanting slogans like, “Demonetization is happening as revenge against NCP due to the win at Kasba Peth and Karnataka Elections.”

The movement was led by NCP’s city president Prashant Jagtap. Spokesperson Pradeep Deshmukh was also present on the occasion.

Jagtap informed that the Modi government had demonetized Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 on 8th November 2016 to destroy black money. But at the same time, Rs 2,000 was introduced for the first time and after almost six years it was decided to withdraw from circulation.

“How beneficial the Rs 2,000 is for the country’s economy; the supporters of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have been saying this for many years, but today PM Modi embarrassed them. We have protested today to participate in the suffering of the said members and to pay tribute to the Rs 2,000,” he added further.
