Pune: NCP’s Chetan Tupe Secures Victory In Hadapsar, Overcomes NCP-SP Rival Jagtap

Hadapsar, 23rd November 2024: Sitting MLA of Hadapsar, Chetan Tupe, from the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), has retained his seat in the Hadapsar constituency, securing victory against Prashant Jagtap of the Sharad Pawar faction (NCP-SP) by approximately 6,000 votes. Chetan Tupe faced heavy criticism from veteran leader Sharad Pawar on X (formerly Twitter), where Pawar accused him of lacking the loyalty exemplified by his father, Vitthal Tupe. During the NCP split in 2023, Chetan Tupe sided with Ajit Pawar.
After the split, the Lok Sabha elections saw Hadapsar struggling to garner votes for Mahayuti’s Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil, leading many to speculate that Tupe might lose this election. However, he managed to emerge victorious against Prashant Jagtap, the Pune City President of NCP-SP. Despite anti-incumbency sentiments and Sharad Pawar’s aggressive campaigning for Jagtap, Tupe maintained a comfortable lead in all rounds of counting.
On voting day, Hadapsar recorded a low voter turnout of just 50.11% out of 6.08 lakh registered voters. Hadapsar Constituency had the lowest voter turnout in Pune. Traditionally, low voter turnout is seen as favouring incumbents, a trend that worked to Tupe’s advantage, enabling him to secure his win.
