Pune NGO Opens Free ‘Safe House’ for Inter-caste and Interfaith Married Couples

Pune, 22nd May 2025: In a significant move to support freedom of choice in marriage, Pune-based NGO Vicharvedh Association has launched a free Safe House facility for newly married inter-caste and interfaith couples. The initiative aims to provide a secure and supportive space for couples who often face familial or societal opposition after marriage.
According to a press release issued by the association, the Safe Houses are available in multiple parts of Pune including Baner, Khadki, Bavdhan, Aundh, and Keshavnagar. Couples can stay for up to two months at these locations, completely free of cost.
“This effort is a step toward creating an inclusive society where love and choice are not punished but protected,” said Vicharvedh Association. The organization has tied up with well-established and socially conscious families who have volunteered to offer accommodation to such couples.
The Safe House initiative is part of a broader campaign by Vicharvedh to encourage and normalize inter-caste and interfaith marriages in India. Other support services offered under this campaign include counseling, legal and financial guidance, matchmaking events, and public awareness programs.
“Societal myths and misconceptions continue to stigmatize such unions. Through this initiative, we are not only offering shelter but also a message that love across caste and religion is valid and worthy of support,” the association added.
