Pune, 14th December 2024: Night temperatures across parts of Maharashtra are expected to rise by 2-3°C from Monday, as southeasterly winds bring moisture into the region, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

On Friday, Jalgaon recorded the state’s lowest minimum temperature at 8.9°C, while Pune’s Shivajinagar area reported 12.6°C and Lohegaon recorded 15.3°C. While cooler conditions are likely to persist over the weekend, IMD predicts a gradual warming trend from Monday.

Speaking about the weather conditions, S.D. Sanap, a scientist at IMD Pune, said, “The current cold nights will continue through the weekend without much change. However, starting Monday, we anticipate a slight rise in minimum temperatures by 2-3°C, primarily due to southeasterly winds carrying moisture into the region. Additionally, the westward movement of a low-pressure system and an associated cyclonic circulation near the Tamil Nadu coast will contribute to this warming trend.”

The IMD’s forecast suggests clear skies over Pune and its neighboring areas in the coming days. Pune’s minimum temperature, which is expected to hover around 13°C on Sunday, is likely to rise to 15°C by Tuesday.
Although no significant rainfall or cloudy weather is expected, the gradual increase in temperatures will offer some respite from the current chill affecting parts of the state.

Meanwhile, in the Konkan region, Alibag recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state on Friday at 34.8°C. IMD officials also clarified that the incoming southeasterly winds are unlikely to result in cloudy skies or rainfall, unlike similar weather systems earlier in the season.

Residents can look forward to more temperate nights starting next week as the state transitions away from the chill of early December.
