Hinjawadi, 21st January 2025: The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has issued a notice to Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited over noise pollution caused by their office in the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, Hinjawadi, Pune. The company has been given 15 days to submit an action-taken report detailing measures to reduce noise levels.

Following a complaint filed in 2023 by Nandini Chakravarti, a resident of the nearby Blue Ridge Society, MPCB officials inspected the Reliance Jio office. The inspection revealed noise levels of 74 decibels, significantly exceeding permissible limits for commercial areas.

A hearing was conducted on 26th December 2024, at the MPCB headquarters in Mumbai via video conference, with Reliance Jio officials in attendance. Following that, the MPCB issued directives to the company, including:

1. Submit a time-bound action plan within 7 days to address noise pollution.
2. Install noise reduction equipment within 3 months.

Jagannath Salunkhe, Regional Officer of MPCB, stated, “If Reliance Jio fails to comply with the board’s instructions, legal action will be taken against them.”

The MPCB has outlined permissible noise levels for different areas:
– Industrial: 75 dB (day) / 70 dB (night)
– Commercial: 65 dB (day) / 55 dB (night)
– Residential: 55 dB (day) / 45 dB (night)
– Silence Zone: 50 dB (day and night)
