Pune: Notorious Criminal Shivam Andekar, Associate Arrested in Rs 48 Lakh Extortion Case

Ganesh Peth, 9th June 2025: In a major breakthrough, the Faraskhana Police have arrested Shivam Udaykant Andekar (30) and Akash Pardeshi (30) in an extortion case involving a fish trader from Ganesh Peth. Andekar, a known criminal figure with ties to the Andekar gang, is also the son of former municipal corporator Udaykant Andekar.

The arrests were made after a trader filed a complaint detailing years of threats and financial coercion. According to the FIR, Andekar began demanding monthly extortion payments of ₹50,000 from the victim back in 2016. Pardeshi, his associate from Lohiyanagar, allegedly handled the regular collections. Over eight years, the accused extorted approximately ₹48 lakh.

The situation took a violent turn in May 2025, when the duo and their accomplices reportedly vandalized the trader’s shop and forcibly removed goods using a tempo. Fearing for his safety, the businessman finally approached the police.

Shivam Andekar has a known criminal background and was previously externed from Pune in 2020 under preventive detention laws. After the externment period ended, he returned to the city and resumed illegal activities, police said.

The extortion and robbery case has been registered against six to seven individuals, and a manhunt is underway to trace the remaining culprits.

The arrests were carried out by a team led by Senior Police Inspector Prashant Bhasme of Faraskhana Police Station, with support from Crime Branch Inspector Ajit Jadhav, Assistant Inspector Vaibhav Gaikwad, and Sub-Inspector Arvind Shinde.

Police have assured that strict action will follow as investigations continue.
