Pune, 28th February 2023: This year’s budget for Zilla Parishad is around Rs 200 crore. But, only Rs 15-16 crore will be available for development works. Over Rs 176 crore has to be paid for last year’s spillover and share of stamp duty to Gram Panchayats. Therefore, there are signs of a “break” in the development works in the district.
Considering the restricted expenditure of the Zilla Parishad for the year and the amount to be paid to Gram Panchayats on account of stamp duty and the liability for the current year, a large provision has to be made.
Gram panchayats will be allocated over Rs 100 crore in stamp duty. The Zilla Parishad administration currently has a liability of around Rs 65 crore. It is estimated that only Rs 15 to 16 crore will be available for development works after deducting other incidental expenses.
Regarding the forthcoming budget of Zilla Parishad, Chief Executive Officer Ayush Prasad held meetings with department-wise account heads. The number of funds available for the budget was determined by considering the plans of the last budget and the closed expenditure. In the current situation, the expenditure of the schemes implemented by the office bearers in the last few years will have to be cut.
Officials planned and approved 1.5 times the available funds. Therefore, the responsibility for these works has fallen on the upcoming year’s budget. The administrators have decided to zero out the liability this year in full.
