Pune: Organ Donation By Youth’s Family Gives New Lease Of Life To 5 Persons
Pune, 24th February 2023: Dr DY Patil Medical College, Hospital, and Research Centre in Pune facilitated a multiorgan donation of a 19-year-old youth from Baramati yesterday who had been admitted with RTA on February 18th, 2023.
The patient was the younger child of a family whose father had died during his childhood, leaving his mother as the sole breadwinner. Consent for all possible organs was given by the patient’s mother and elder brother, and the heart, lung, liver, and simultaneous kidney+pancreas were allocated to Dr DY Patil Hospital and Research Centre, Pune, with one kidney allocated to Ashwini Hospital, Solapur, in accordance with allocation criteria.
The heart was transplanted into a 52-year-old male, a pair of lungs into a 39-year-old female, the liver into a 53-year-old male, the simultaneous kidney+pancreas into a 35-year-old male, and the other kidney into a 47-year-old male at Ashwini Sahakari Hospital, Solapur. All patients who received transplants are stable and doing well.
