Pune, 22nd January 2025: Land acquisition for the ambitious 138-km-long Pune Outer Ring Road project is expected to wrap up by March 2025, paving the way for construction, with the entire project slated to be operational by September 2027.

Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) Vice Chairman and Managing Director Anilkumar Gaikwad revealed these revised timelines after a recent review meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. “Clear directives have been issued to local officials to adhere to the revised schedule,” he said.

The ring road, which aims to alleviate traffic congestion within Pune city, is divided into two phases:
Eastern Phase: A 74.08-km stretch from Urse on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway to Shivare on the Pune-Satara Highway.
Western Phase: A 64.45-km circular route connecting Shivare to Urse.

The project will span 83 villages and requires 143 hectares of land in Maval, Khed, Purandar, and Haveli talukas for the eastern section and 64 hectares in Mulshi, Haveli, and Bhor talukas for the western section.

“Once land acquisition is completed, construction is expected to take around two-and-a-half years,” Gaikwad stated.

To expedite the land acquisition process, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi has submitted a request for ₹800 crore from the state government. MSRDC officials assured that funding for the project will not be an issue, with loans already secured from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO).

The Pune Outer Ring Road is designed to provide a major boost to regional connectivity while reducing traffic congestion in the city. It will also facilitate smoother travel for vehicles bypassing the city, significantly improving commute times and reducing pollution.
