Katraj, 16th May 2021: Even though the government has imposed a restriction on the gathering of people in the backdrop of the Coronavirus disease (COVID19) pandemic, a huge rally was taken out during the funeral procession of a criminal on Saturday afternoon.

Madhav Waghate (28), a criminal on police record from Sahakarnagar, was killed in Bibvewadi after a dispute over WhatsApp status. Waghate was stabbed in the head with a sharp weapon and killed around 1 am on Saturday. An FIR has been registered against 10 persons for the murder.

His body was cremated around 1 pm on Saturday. A two-wheeler rally was held during the funeral procession. Over 125 two-wheelers had participated in this rally. The rally was held from Dhankawadi to Katraj cemetery. A case has been registered against 150 to 200 people at Sahakarnagar police station.

The rally puts a question on the Pune police who claim to have put checkpoints in different parts of the city. When contacted, officials said that a search operation has been launched to trace participants based on two-wheelers’ registration numbers. A video of the rally has gone viral on social media.
