Pune: Over 24 Lakh Vehicles Yet to Install HSRP, RTO Sets April 30 as Final Deadline

Pune, 20th February 2025: The State Transport Department has extended the deadline for installing High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on vehicles registered before 2019. Vehicle owners must now comply with the mandate by 30th April. Failure to do so will result in action by the Regional Transport Office (RTO).
Originally, the deadline for HSRP installation was set for 31st March. However, due to the high volume of vehicles requiring the upgrade—approximately 25 lakh in the Pune RTO jurisdiction alone—authorities decided to grant an extension.
A designated company has been entrusted with the installation process. Despite repeated appeals from the RTO, the response from vehicle owners has been minimal. Of the 25 lakh vehicles required to install HSRP plates, only 10,000 have complied so far.
After 30th April, vehicles without HSRP plates will face penalties. The cost for installation is as follows:
– Two-wheelers and tractors: ₹450 + GST
– Three-wheelers: ₹500 + GST
– Four-wheelers and other vehicles: ₹745 + GST
Vehicle owners must register online at transport.maharashtra.gov.in and select a nearby fitment center. On the assigned date, they must visit the selected center, where a certified vendor will install the HSRP plate and provide verification.
Authorities emphasize that HSRP plates enhance vehicle security and curb fraudulent activities. These plates:
– Allow easy verification of vehicle authenticity.
– Reduce the risk of vehicle theft.
– Help prevent fraud.
– Feature a laser-engraved code for tracking.
– Include a non-removable snap lock for security.
The Pune RTO urges vehicle owners to complete the installation process promptly to avoid penalties and ensure compliance with government regulations.
