Pune, 1st April 2024: The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has announced a significant relief measure for students in drought-affected areas of the Maharashtra State. In a bid to alleviate financial burdens, the state board has introduced examination fee waivers and fee reimbursements for students enrolled in classes 10th and 12th.

This initiative is expected to benefit a substantial number of students, with 2,84,208 students in the 12th standard, 3,28,914 students in the 10th standard, and a combined total of 6,13,122 students across both standards set to receive fee waivers and reimbursements.

The decision to implement this relief measure comes in the wake of drought declarations in 1,021 revenue boards, encompassing 40 talukas throughout Maharashtra due to insufficient rainfall this year. The Ministry of School Education, in collaboration with the state board, has taken proactive steps to address the financial challenges faced by students in these drought-affected regions.

Students in the designated drought-affected areas are instructed to liaise with their respective schools, junior colleges, and educational institutions to facilitate the necessary actions related to fee waivers and reimbursements.

A proposal put forth by the Planning Department of the Ministry of School Education outlines the financial requirements for this initiative. A fund totalling Rs. 32,07,97,475 is earmarked to cover the examination fee waivers and fee reimbursements for students in classes 10th and 12th. Specifically, Rs. 15,88,24,925 is allocated for students in the 12th standard, while Rs. 16,19,62,550 is designated for students in the 10th standard.
