Pune, October 15, 2022: The city’s civic government is getting ready to inspect overhead water tanks throughout the city to check for leaks and damages and identify other structural problems.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will start by gathering information on the structural condition and will also evaluate the usefulness of the existing and newly constructed tanks, which are being made for the 24-hour water delivery project.

According to PMC’s water department head Aniruddha Pawaskar, “The audit is intended to reduce water losses to a total of 20%.” The civic administration has estimated that there is now a 35% water loss in the water delivery system under PMC districts. These leaks occur in both instances – when moving water from the main line to the tanks and while supplying it to homes.

The civic areas previously had about three lakh water connections, but with the merging of 23 villages, the numbers increased by about 40,000.
