Pune: Ovi Ritesh Dhore Clinches Gold and Sets New Record in SFA Archery Competition
Pune, 30th November 2023: Ovi Ritesh Dhore, a rising star in the world of archery, achieved a remarkable feat by securing a gold medal in the recently held SFA archery competition at Balewadi. Not only did she emerge victorious, but she also shattered her own previous record, setting a new benchmark in the competition.
In 2022, Ovi embarked on her archery journey, choosing it as her career path. Under the guidance of Ajay Sonwane’s Focus Archery Academy at the Warje Sports Complex, established by Warje corporator Sachin Dodke, she initially honed her skills with the Indian bow. Recognizing her unwavering determination, the academy transitioned her to the compound bow within six months.
This strategic move proved fruitful as Ovi went on to clinch the team gold medal at the state level competition in Latur, followed by success at the district level. These victories served as a morale booster, propelling her to seek further excellence.
Realizing the need for intensified practice, Ajay suggested enrolling in a resident academy. Ovi took this advice to heart and secured admission to Drishti Academy in Satara, under the mentorship of Praveen Sawant, a coach associated with the Indian team. In a remarkable four months, she achieved the 9th rank in the senior state level competition held at Parli.
Ovi continued her upward trajectory, securing the 12th position in the National Games Trials and adding a team bronze medal in the junior state level competition. Despite being less than a year into her archery journey, she consistently ranks first or second in district-level competitions, a testament to her unwavering determination.
Credit for her success goes to the dedicated efforts of her trainers, Praveen and Ajay. Looking ahead, Ovi’s focus is set on bringing home a medal for India in the Olympics, showcasing her ambition and dedication to the sport.
