Pune, 26 July 2020: In these times of pandemic when people are trying to support and help each other, an incident of apathy towards a patient right outside Pune’s Sassoon General Hospital has shocked everyone.

As per a Facebook post shared by senior physiotherapist Manasi Pawar, a patient who was struggling to get inside the Sassoon Hospital had giddiness right outside, but nobody including the security guards or others came forward to help him.

Pawar who had gone to the hospital for her work tried to help the patient who wanted to get admitted, but she was met with excuses of unavailability of stretcher or staff, she shared.

“A patient was seen struggling to get into the hospital as he was not able to walk and was not well …when asked the security guard about it he said he sits a outside so ignore .. he had a small paper in hand with the date :22 nd July …he wanted to get admitted and no one was there to take him in due to risk of covid…approaching 2-3 employees I got the answer that it’s not our work ..when asked why can’t we take the patient inside .. no staff no stretcher was available and the concerned person said that it’s not my duty but I am here and staff will come to take him when they ll be free …till then the patient has to be here outside..” Pawar’s Facebook post read.

As several incidents of unavailability of beds and patients suffering are coming forth, people have criticised the Sassoon General Hospital and its staff for the inhuman behaviour, and demanded strict action.

Punekarnews.in tried to contact Dr Murlidhar Tambe, Dean of Sassoon General Hospital and BJ Medical College in this regard, but did not receive any response. The story will be updated after his response.
