Pune, 8th April 2025: Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital has landed in the eye of a storm following the death of a pregnant woman, Tanisha Bhise. The hospital is facing serious allegations of negligence after reportedly refusing treatment unless a sum of ₹10 lakh was paid upfront. The incident has triggered widespread outrage, with political parties and social organizations taking a strong stand against the hospital.

In a parallel development, the hospital has also come under scrutiny for allegedly defaulting on property tax payments worth ₹27 crore to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Sources claim that the hospital has not paid any property tax over the past six years.

Amid mounting criticism, Dr. Dhananjay Kelkar, trustee of Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, addressed the media on Monday, denying the tax default allegations. “We have not owed a single rupee to the municipality,” he said, countering reports that the hospital was served a legal notice by PMC.

However, according to officials, the civic body had issued a notice to the hospital demanding payment of ₹22 crore, as per a court order. The PMC has reportedly directed the hospital to settle the dues within two days, warning of stringent action if the payment is not made.
