Pune: PCMC Beat Inspector Caught Taking Rs 70,000 Bribe in ACB Trap at Rahatni
Reported by Mubarak Ansari
Rahatani, 11th June 2026: In a major crackdown on local administrative corruption, the Pune Unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) trapped a Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Beat Inspector red-handed on Thursday evening for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹70,000.
The accused public servant, identified as Umesh Arun Londhe (28), is a Class-3 Civil Engineering Assistant who serves as the Beat Inspector for the Anti-Encroachment Squad in the Pimple Gurav Ward under PCMC’s ‘D’ Ward Regional Office in Rahatni.
According to official ACB sources, the complainant, a 58-year-old male, owns a one-guntha plot in Pimple Gurav where he had constructed a three-story building without obtaining formal municipal permissions. Consequently, the PCMC had served him an unauthorized construction notice on February 25, 2026.
The complainant subsequently approached the Bombay High Court by filing a writ petition. The High Court directed him to approach the PCMC, pay the designated compounding charges/fines, and regularize the construction. Following these directives, the complainant submitted a regularization application to the civic body.
Despite the High Court order, Londhe contacted the complainant on June 8, 2026, demanding a meeting. During their meeting, Londhe insisted that a demolition complaint was pending against the building and that it would have to be torn down. He allegedly ignored the High Court’s ruling shown by the complainant and demanded ₹70,000 in cash as protection money to prevent the Anti-Encroachment Department from taking demolition action.
Refusing to yield to the illicit demand, the complainant filed a formal complaint with the Pune ACB on June 9.
The ACB team initiated verification proceedings on June 11, 2026, confirming that the bribe demand was active. Following the verification, a trap was laid later that evening. At approximately 5:35 PM, Londhe was intercepted by ACB officers in the parking lot of the PCMC ‘D’ Ward Regional Office in Rahatni while accepting the marked ₹70,000 cash bribe from the complainant.
Londhe was immediately taken into custody. The process of registering a formal FIR against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, is currently underway at the Wakad Police Station, Pimpri Chinchwad.
The trap was executed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Satish Walekar and Police Inspector Pravin Nimbalkar, under the overall supervision of Shirish Sardeshpande (Superintendent of Police, ACB Pune), alongside Additional SPs Ajit Patil and Arjun Bhosale.
