Pune, 19th August 2023: A significant stride towards ensuring the safety of Pune’s residents has been taken with the approval of a new pedestrian footover bridge (FOB) at Chandni Chowk (now called NDA Chowk) on the Mumbai-Bangalore Highway.

The original project, though comprehensive, lacked provisions for a footover bridge, leading to hazardous highway crossings for commuters from Pashan, Bavdhan, Kothrud and Mulshi sides. Recognizing the potential risks and prioritizing citizen safety, Pune District Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil proactively engaged with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, to address this pressing concern.

Minister Patil’s concerted efforts bore fruit, as the proposal to construct a dedicated pedestrian bridge connecting Pashan and Mulshi regions has been submitted for approval to the National Highway Authority (NHAI). This initiative, in response to the growing concern for pedestrian safety, aims to enhance mobility and protect citizens from the dangers posed by unsafe highway crossings.

The new pedestrian bridge is set to be strategically positioned at NDA Chowk, commonly known as Chandni Chowk, a crucial junction witnessing high footfall. The construction of this bridge will not only offer a safer passage for pedestrians but also underscore the authorities’ commitment to the well-being of the city’s inhabitants.

Minister Patil has appealed to all Pune citizens to exercise caution and prioritize their safety by refraining from risking their lives to cross the highway. With the upcoming pedestrian bridge, traversing the area will soon become safer and more convenient, eliminating the need for perilous road crossings.
