Pune: PETA India Demands Action Against NCP MLA Rohit Pawar Over Alleged Crab Abuse
Pune, 5th April 2024: In a recent press conference, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India demanded action against Karjat Jamkhed MLA Rohit Pawar after a disturbing incident involving the abuse of a crab surfaced. The organization held a press conference to highlight the mistreatment of the animal, which was reportedly hanged and abused during a public event.
The incident has sparked outrage as it violates several laws and regulations, including the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, the Maharashtra Model Code of Conduct, and orders issued by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer and the Election Commission of India prohibiting the use of animals for campaigning. PETA India has emphasized these legal violations in a letter addressed to Sharad Pawar, the national president of the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar), and Meenal Kalskar, the Deputy District Election Officer.
In response to the incident, PETA India has requested MLA Rohit Pawar to hand over the crab for veterinary care and rehabilitation back into the wild. The organization has condemned the pre-planned nature of the abuse, as evident from the video footage, and has urged for swift action to prevent further harm to innocent animals.
Political stunts at the expense of innocent lives are both cruel and illegal.
