Alandi, 1 January 2026: Around 10–15 devotees sustained injuries when a pickup vehicle transporting them to the Koregaon Bhima Vijay Stambh overturned on the Alandi–Markal road on Thursday morning, police said.

The accident occurred at approximately 10:45 am near Ravin Cable Company in Markal village, under the jurisdiction of Alandi Police Station. The vehicle, MH 14 LB 3097, was travelling from Kuruli, Sonawane Vasti in Khed taluka, carrying passengers attending the annual Bhima Koregaon commemorations.

According to Senior Police Inspector Bhima Narke, the driver lost control while the vehicle was in motion, causing it to swerve and topple onto the road. Overcrowding in the pickup contributed to the multiple injuries.

Local residents and passing motorists rushed to the scene to assist, while police personnel quickly coordinated emergency response and rescue operations. The injured were taken to Alandi Rural Hospital, K.K. Hospital, and YCM Hospital, where authorities confirmed that their conditions are stable. No fatalities were reported.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause, including overloading or mechanical failure as potential factors.

The accident, occurring on the first day of the New Year, temporarily disrupted traffic along the route and cast a shadow over the otherwise festive atmosphere surrounding the annual Bhima Koregaon Vijay Stambh commemoration.
