Pimpri/Chakan, 27th December 2021: The officials from Pimpri Chinchwad Police have arrested three accused in the murder case of criminal on police record after an encounter near Chakan on Sunday night. Police Commissioner Krishna Prakash and some police personnel sustained minor injuries in the melee.

According to police, Yogesh Ravindra Jagtap (36), a criminal on police record was shot dead in Katepuram Chowk in Sangvi on December 18 by rivals over an old feud over dominance in the area. A murder case is registered in this regard at the Sangvi police station. While investigating the case, police arrested two accused.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Manchak Ipper said, “Information was received that three accused have been hiding in Koye near Kurkundi village in Khed taluka under Chakan police station jurisdiction. Commissioner of Police Krishna Prakash, who was in Alandi regarding investigation of ATM robbery case, was informed about the criminals and he formed four teams. He himself led the operation.”

He added, “Our team zeroed on a hut near a farm where the accused were hiding around 11.15 pm. The accused got wind of it and tried to escape. They fired two rounds towards two teams approaching from different directions. Police Inspector Tonpe and Assistant Police Inspector Satish Kamble fired two rounds towards the accused from their service revolvers. The accused were fleeing through bushes when Police Commissioner sir picked up a plant (already uprooted) and threw it towards the accused causing him to fall down. Our team members overpowered him. The two other accused were also caught.”

 

The arrested accused have been identified as Hanumant Mote (23), Ashwin Anandrao Chavan (23), resident of Sangvi) and Mahesh Tukaram Mane (23), all residents of Sangvi.

Based on a complaint from API Satish Kamble, another case has been registered against them at Chakan police station for an attempt to murder.

The team members who participated in the encounter included Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Prashant Amrutkar, Sangvi Police Station’s Police Inspector Sunil Tonpe, Detection Branch’s (DB) Assistant Police Inspector Satish Kamble and Anti-Gunda Squad’s API Harish Mane.
