Pune, 3rd January 2022: Historical places in Pune city are now becoming ‘party spots’ for people. This has led to an increase in the garbage at such places.

Along with the plastic waste caused by tourists, there is an increase in the number of alcohol bottles. At Shaniwarwada, the Pune Ploggers team recently conducted a plogging drive and collected over 450 liquor bottles and about 25 bags of plastic waste.

To welcome the new year, with environment-friendly activities, the organization conducted a plogging campaign at Shaniwarwada. About 80 volunteers had participated in this.

Speaking about the campaign, volunteer Bhushan More said, “Every weekend, the organization conducts a plogging campaign to collect plastic waste at various places in the Pune city. But now we are organizing these campaigns at various historical places. More than 400 bottles of liquor and about 25 kilograms of plastic waste have been collected at Shaniwarwada.”

He added, “We also conducted a plogging drive at Hanuman Tekdi and Sinhgad fort. The volunteers collected the liquor bottles and plastic waste from these places too.”

A grass removal drive is being conducted at various hills in the city to prevent forest fires in the coming days, said Vivek Gaurav, founder of Pune Ploggers.
