Pune, 2nd December 2025: Daily traffic congestion on the Chandni Chowk–Bhugaon stretch may soon ease, after the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) approved a ₹203-crore project to construct an underpass and a flyover.

The two-kilometre road, linking rapidly developing areas like Bhugaon and Bhukum to the city, sees heavy traffic from Hinjewadi, Pirangut, Mulshi, and the Konkan region. At just 10.3 metres wide—far below the required 60 metres—the stretch frequently suffers bottlenecks and accidents.

PMC officials said that 74% of the land required for the project has been acquired, and construction will commence once land acquisition reaches 85%.

The project plan includes:
Grade separator near PVPIT College Chowk: A 430-metre-long, 120-metre-wide RCC structure, estimated to cost ₹27 crore.
Flyover between Ambrosia Chowk and Patilnagar Chowk: An 870-metre-long, 23.2-metre-wide structure, with a 544-metre RCC section, costing around ₹82 crore.
New bridge over the Ram river: Measuring 30 metres in length and 70 metres in width, designed to reduce congestion at the river crossing.
Once completed, the project is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Chandni Chowk and Bhugaon, easing traffic for thousands of commuters daily.
