Pune: PMC Demolishes Slum Structures in Yerwada for River Rejuvenation Project; 58 Families Rehabilitated

Yerwada, 30th May 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has carried out a major anti-encroachment drive in the Yerwada area to clear land for the River Rejuvenation Project. During the operation, the civic body demolished unauthorized structures of 29 ineligible slum dwellers, while successfully rehabilitating 58 eligible families.

According to civic officials, the action was targeted at slum pockets near Yerwada bridge. To ensure fair treatment and proper rehabilitation, the PMC relocated 58 eligible slum holders to alternative housing at Survey No. 17 in Kharadi and Shinde Vasti in Hadapsar. Concurrently, enforcement action was initiated to remove the structures of 29 dwellers who were found ineligible for rehabilitation.

The enforcement action was executed under the leadership of a team of senior civic officials, including Asha Raut, Deputy Commissioner of Zone 1; Rajesh Guram, Assistant Municipal Commissioner; Junior Engineers Ajay More and Farook Patel; and Ramesh Shelar, Deputy Commissioner of the Encroachment Department. The entire operation was supervised on-site by Encroachment Inspectors and Assistant Encroachment Inspectors.

To carry out the demolition work efficiently, the administration deployed heavy machinery and a large workforce. The resources utilized in the drive included two Poclain machines, three JCBs, 15 dumpers, gas cutters, and 70 encroachment workers.
