Pune: PMC Extends Property Tax Amnesty Scheme to February 15 After Election Disruptions; Rs 712 Crore Recovered
Pune, 20th January 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to extend its property tax amnesty scheme until February 15 after recovery efforts were affected due to election-related engagements of civic staff, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said on Monday.
The scheme, which was in effect from November 15 to January 15, enabled the civic body to recover Rs 712 crore in outstanding property tax dues and penalties. However, officials acknowledged that the collection could not reach its full potential as a significant number of PMC officers and employees were deployed for election duties during this period.
Introduced during the administrator-led tenure of the PMC, the amnesty scheme aimed to strengthen revenue collection by encouraging defaulters to clear long-pending dues. Under the initiative, property owners were offered a waiver of up to 75 per cent on penalty amounts imposed on outstanding taxes.
In a first, the civic administration extended the scheme’s benefits to commercial properties in addition to residential ones. Property owners who had previously availed of similar amnesty schemes were also included this time. According to PMC estimates, excluding arrears related to mobile towers, total pending property tax dues stand at approximately ₹18,000 crore.
With the enforcement of the model code of conduct now relaxed, the civic body expects improved implementation and higher recovery during the extended period. Ram noted that the current amnesty scheme has already recorded the highest recovery among all such initiatives undertaken so far by the PMC.
The extension is expected to ease the financial burden on property owners while enabling the municipal corporation to bolster its revenues ahead of planned infrastructure and development projects.
