Pune: PMC Shuts Gates After 9:45 AM, 750 Employees Caught Reporting Late
Pune, 22nd August 2025: The official working hours of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) begin at 9:45 am, but habitual late reporting by officers and staff has been affecting the administration’s efficiency. Taking strict action, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram on Friday (August 22) ordered a surprise drive against latecomers.
After 9:45 am, all entrances to the PMC headquarters were closed, and the names of around 750 latecomer employees, including six department heads, were recorded. Show-cause notices were immediately issued, creating a stir within the civic body.
It has long been observed that many officers and employees at the PMC headquarters as well as regional offices often arrive late in the morning and leave early in the evening. Since assuming charge, Commissioner Ram has repeatedly warned that indiscipline regarding office timings would not be tolerated. Two weeks ago, habitual offenders were cautioned, but with no improvement, the Commissioner ordered Friday’s crackdown.
Despite PMC’s official reporting time of 9:45 am, several employees were found arriving between 10 am and 12 noon. Following the Commissioner’s instructions, the General Administration Department listed their names and issued notices.
PMC employees currently follow a five-day work week with Saturdays off, but daily working hours were extended to maintain the total work requirement. However, despite this concession, time discipline continued to be flouted, compelling the Commissioner to intervene.
A senior official confirmed, “The Municipal Corporation has fixed office timings. Those who reported late had their names recorded and were served show-cause notices as per the Commissioner’s orders. The action covered department heads, senior officers, and general staff — nearly 750 employees in total.”
