Pune: PMC to Hire 50 Transgenders in Various Job Roles
Pune, 17th February 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken a significant step towards promoting diversity and inclusivity in the workforce. The PMC has announced that 50 transgenders will be hired on a contract basis, with 28 people being hired in the first phase.
The Security Department of the Municipal Corporation has prepared a proposal for this initiative. The move comes after social organizations demanded that transgenders should be given employment opportunities in the municipal service.
The PMC’s decision to hire transgenders is a commendable step towards promoting diversity and inclusivity in the workforce. The municipality has taken this decision out of its social commitment to bringing transgenders into the mainstream of society. The proposal for hiring transgenders in the municipal service will be presented before the municipal commissioner for final approval.
The Municipal Corporation has made special arrangements for the transgenders it plans to hire, which includes a separate toilet and other basic facilities. The municipal employees have also been instructed to behave harmoniously with them. The 28 transgenders who will be hired in the first phase will work in the Garden Department, Hospital, and Anti-Encroachment Department.
