Pune, September 15, 2020: After getting many complaints that hearse vans are not available to take dead bodies to crematoriums, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)has decided to install GPS in hearse vans. This will help to track the location of a hearse and will be easily sent to the required location.

After the death of Coronavirus disease (COVID19) patients, their family members have to wait until the hearse arrives for the further process of the funeral at the crematorium. Therefore, PMC has decided to install GPS on the hearse. Also, the civic body has made hearse available at each crematorium to carry a dead body which includes nine places that are Kailash, Yerwada, Aundh, Pashan, Katraj, Dhankawadi, Mundhwa, Koregaon Park and Bibvewadi. If a hearse is not available then it will be made available from the main control room of PMC, said the head of electrical department, Srinivas Kandul

The citizens are expressing displeasure that they have to wait for hours for the electric funeral of the deceased patients. For this, the municipal corporation has started using ‘Google Sheet’ to understand the availability of electric crematorium. Nine junior engineers of the municipality have been appointed for the management of each crematorium and the engineers will update the ‘Google Sheet’ after every half an hour. As a result, citizens will be informed through the control room the time of waiting at each crematorium.
