Pune, 19th October 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has warned of criminal action against property owners who rebuild unauthorised structures or encroach on public spaces after civic officials have removed them. The civic administration has also proposed recording pending penalties as a charge against the concerned properties to strengthen recovery efforts.

The move aims to curb repeated violations of building regulations and prevent encroachers from rebuilding structures at the same locations after demolition drives.

The PMC spends considerable amounts on manpower, machinery and police deployment to demolish unauthorised structures across the city. However, the administration has faced difficulties recovering demolition costs and penalties from those responsible, leaving the civic body to bear much of the financial burden.

Repeat Encroachments May Lead to Criminal Cases
The civic administration has adopted a stricter approach to prevent people from rebuilding unauthorised structures after demolition. Officials have warned that those who repeat such violations may face criminal cases.

The administration also plans to record outstanding penalties as a charge against the respective properties. This could help the civic body pursue recovery of unpaid dues from property owners who repeatedly violate regulations.

The proposed measures are intended to make repeat encroachments more costly, both financially and legally, and discourage people from treating demolition drives as a temporary setback.
