Pune, 20th February 2025: Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has issued a warning against a fraudulent version of its official “Apli PMPML” mobile application, alerting passengers to potential financial scams. The transport authority has filed a complaint with the Cyber Cell of Maharashtra Police against unknown individuals promoting and distributing the fake app on various social media platforms.

Deceptive advertisements for the counterfeit app have been circulating on YouTube channels, Telegram, Facebook, and Instagram, misleading passengers by falsely claiming that the fake app allows users to obtain travel passes without payment. This fraudulent scheme is designed to trick commuters into downloading the fake app, potentially leading to financial fraud.

PMPML officials have warned that strict legal action will be taken under the IT Act against those responsible for creating and promoting the fake app. A dedicated team comprising experts from PMPML’s technical unit and the Cyber Cell is actively monitoring social media to track down the perpetrators.

PMPML has urged passengers to remain vigilant and refrain from downloading any unofficial PMPML apps to avoid falling victim to such scams. PMPML has emphasized that only the official “Apli PMPML” app should be used to ensure a safe and secure experience.

Authorities have also cautioned that legal action will be taken against individuals caught using the counterfeit app. Passengers are encouraged to report any suspicious activity related to the fake app to the relevant authorities.
