Pune: PMRDA Prioritises Cement Concrete Roads, Infrastructure Upgrades Under New Structural Plan
Pune, 3rd November 2025: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has prioritised the development of key infrastructure facilities, including internal roads, water supply, drainage, and electricity, as part of its newly prepared structural plan. The tender process for the construction of 248 km of roads in the first phase is currently under scrutiny.
After the cancellation of the draft development plan (DP), PMRDA initiated this renewed process to accelerate urban and industrial connectivity. The proposals include not only major highways but also essential link roads connecting two or more villages within the region.
Earlier, PMRDA had floated tenders for asphalt road works. However, following Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s directive that all future roads in the PMRDA jurisdiction should be constructed using cement concrete, the earlier tenders were cancelled and reissued as per the revised technical standards.
The upgraded road network aims to address the growing traffic congestion in industrial and urban zones such as Hinjewadi, Chakan, Maan, and Talegaon. Plans for circular roads, highway linkages, and land acquisition have already been submitted to the District Collector. Officials believe that once executed, these projects will significantly boost transportation efficiency and urban development across the metropolitan region.
Meanwhile, the state government is yet to appoint an independent officer to oversee this large-scale infrastructure initiative. Some development projects had stalled after the previous layout plan was scrapped, but with the structural plan now in place, PMRDA has resumed work on priority road projects to ensure smoother mobility and planned urban growth.
