Pune Police Arrest Absconding RTI Activist Ravindra Barhate’s Wife In Fraud, Land Grabbing Case

Pune, 30th June 2021: The Crime Branch of Pune city police today arrested two persons, including the wife of absconding RTI activist Ravindra Barhate in a fraud and land grabbing conspiracy case.
The arrested persons have been identified as Sangeeta Ravindra Barhate (55) and Pitambar Gulab Dhiwar.
According to police, Barhate is absconding in 12 cases of extortion, fraud and land grabbing in the city. In three of the cases, action has been taken against Barhate. His team includes Sanjay Bhokare of Sangli, dismissed policeman Shailesh Jagtap and journalist Devendra Jain. Police have invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against them.
Barhate has been evading the police for the last one year. He had made allegations against the police by Facebook Live video twice. Police have also arrested Pitambar for helping to make the video viral.
Preliminary investigations revealed that his wife was also involved in the conspiracy. Therefore, Pune police arrested Sangeeta Barhate around 2.30 pm on Wednesday.
