Pune Police Arrest Man For Impersonating MP Amol Kolhe, Calling Builder Rohit Gera

Pune, January 27, 2021: The Crime Branch of Pune City Police has nabbed a man for allegedly impersonating as Shirur Member of Parliament Amol Kolhe and calling builder Rohit Gera for funds during lockdown.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Bachchan Singh said, “We had received an application from MP Kolhe that some person impersonated him and demanded assistance from a reputed builder. It was being investigated by anti-extortion cell (AEC) of Crime Branch.”

In this matter, the AEC team today detained one person identified as Vishal Shendge (32), a resident of Tilekarnagar, Kondhwa, who impersonated Kolhe. An FIR is being registered against the accused at Wanavadi police station.

According to police, during the lockdown period, the accused had called Rohit Kumar Gera, MD of Gera Builders, pretending to be MP Kolhe and demanded funds for helping people .

DCP Singh said that case is being registered against Shendge and his accomplice Suresh Bandu Kamble, a resident of PMC Colony, Ganj Peth. They will be charged for offences under sections 170 (impersonating a public servant), 419 (punishment for cheating by impersonation), 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“The accused had earlier cheated people by using the name of MLA Chandrakant Dada Patil. Last year, there were three such cases registered with Kothrud (2) and Alankar (1) police stations. The accused was arrested in all three cases and currently, he was out on bail. During preliminary investigation, we have learnt that there are a total of seven cases registered against the accused”, DCP Singh added.

The investigation team included ACP Laxman Borate, Police Inspector Balaji Pandhare, Police Sub Inspector Vijay Zanjad and police personnel Vinod Salunke, Pradip Shitole, Vijay Gurav, Sangram, Shailesh Surve, Amol Pilane and Chetan Shirolkar.

Further investigation is being done by anti-extortion cell PSI Zanjad.
