Pune Police Arrest Two for Armed Robbery on DP Road

Pune, 19th February 2025: Alankar Police in Pune have apprehended two individuals accused of robbing a young man at sword-point while he was jogging on DP Road in the Erandwane area. The arrested suspects, Sumit alias Diamond Raju Asaware (19) and Abhishek Bharat Khandare (22), both residents of Kothrud, were caught following a swift investigation.
The police recovered stolen items worth Rs 2.86 lakh, including a sword, a motorcycle, two gold chains, and a pendant. The robbery occurred a week ago when the victim, a resident of Shaniwar Peth, was out for his morning run on DP Road. The suspects, along with an accomplice who is still at large, threatened the jogger with a sword and stole his gold chain before fleeing on a motorcycle.
Following the incident, which caused panic among morning and evening walkers in the area, Alankar police launched an immediate investigation. They analyzed CCTV footage from DP Road, Karve Nagar, and Kothrud areas, leading to the identification and subsequent arrest of Asaware and Khandare.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Sambhaji Kadam and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Sinhagad Road Division) Ajay Parmar. Senior Police Inspector Sunita Rokade of Alankar Police Station and Police Inspector (Crime) Anil Mane led the team.
Authorities are currently searching for the third accomplice involved in the robbery. This arrest has brought relief to local residents who had been concerned about their safety following the brazen daylight robbery on a popular jogging route.
