Pune police begins crackdown on drunk driving, 482 persons arrested

Pune, December 28, 2019: Ahead of the upcoming New Year’s celebrations, Pune city police traffic branch has intensified action against the Drunk Driving. In the last two days, 482 persons were arrested.

According to police, dedicated teams are working round the clock across all 24 traffic divisions in the city. Every year, city police conduct intensified checks to curb the cases of Driving Under Influence (DUI) of alcohol.

Police said that they have launched the drive with dedicated strength of police personnel who will conduct breath analyzers checks at fixed points and also at random locations through out the city. While the focused drive began from December 26, it will be further intensified from Sunday.

On Friday and Saturday together, police have caught as many as 482 persons in the cases of DUI across the city. The persons caught with higher than permissible limit of alcohol are booked and made to appear before a designated court for punitive action. Officials said that as part of the intensified drive strict action will be also be taken against people flouting norms of speed limit, driving without helmets or seat belts and riding triple seats.

The actions are being taken under supervision of Additional Commissioner of Police Sanjay Shinde and Deputy Commissioner of Police Prasad Akkanouru.
