Pune Police Detain 5 Juveniles in 24 Hours for Vadgaon Budruk Firing; Pistol, Sickles Seized
Vadgaon Budruk, 10th April 2026: In a swift operation, the Sinhgad Road Police have detained five juveniles within 24 hours of a violent altercation and firing incident in the Vadgaon Budruk area. Authorities also recovered a country-made pistol and two iron sickles (koytas) from their possession.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:45 PM on April 7 at Charvad Vasti. According to police reports, a group of five to six individuals, harboring a grudge over a prior enmity, assaulted a man with an iron weapon. To spread panic and terror in the locality, the suspects also discharged a firearm. Following the incident, an FIR was registered at the Sinhgad Road Police Station.
During the subsequent manhunt on April 8, police constables Vinayak Mohite and Tanaji Sagar received a crucial tip-off. Informants revealed that the suspects were hiding along the road connecting Sharad Hospital to Prayoja City.
Acting on this intelligence, a police team led by Assistant Police Inspector (API) Samir Karpe and Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Santosh Bhandwalkar laid a trap. Upon spotting the police personnel, the five suspects attempted to flee the scene. Following a brief chase, the police successfully apprehended them.
During interrogation, all five suspects were identified as children in conflict with the law (minors). A physical search conducted in the presence of panchas (witnesses) led to the recovery of one pistol and two iron koytas.
The detained juveniles have since been transferred to the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Juvenile Observation Home in Yerwada, Pune. API Samir Karpe is conducting further investigations into the matter.
The successful operation was executed under the directives of Pune Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar, Joint CP Ranjankumar Sharma, Additional CP (West) Rajesh Bansode, DCP (Zone 3) Sambhaji Kadam, and ACP (Sinhgad Road Division) Ajay Parmar, with on-ground guidance from Senior Police Inspector Vinay Patankar.
The team included Police Sub-Inspectors Bhupesh Salunke and Santosh Bhandwalkar, and police personnel Uttam Taru, Anna Kekan, Vikas Bandal, Satish More, Pankaj Deshmukh, Rahul Olekar, Sagar Shedge, Tanaji Sagar, Samir Malwadkar, Sandip Kamble, Vinayak Mohite, and Shirish Gawade.
