Pune Police files FIR against JW Marriott Hotel Director for opening café for outside people

Pune, May 10, 2020: An FIR has been registered against the JW Marriott, Senapati Bapat (SB) Road, and hotel director for allowing coffee shop open for people not staying at the hotel. Many patrons were without a mask as per CCTV footage.

Many people had complained about the café following which a case was registered yesterday. The hotel director Vimal Verma (35) of Pashan has been charged for offences under relevant sections of National Disaster Management Act, Maharashtra COVID-19 Rules and Epidemic Diseases Act. Also, charges under sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) and 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) of the Indian Panel Code (IPC), are also included.

According to police FIR, the incident took place between 6 pm to 11 pm on May 8. People who were not staying at the hotel were given entry, thus violating lockdown rule prescribed by Pune District Collector. The CCTV footage has been taken as evidence. Based on a complaint from Police Naik Prakash Avhad, the case was registered with Chatushrungi police station. Assistant Police Inspector Vishal Pawar is further investigating the case.
