Pune, 15th October 2023: The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has prompted the Pune Police to ramp up security measures around the Jewish community in the city. The decision aims to prevent potential violent incidents that might arise in the wake of global tensions.

The Jewish community in Pune primarily resides in the Camp, Koregaon Park, Wanwadi, and Koregaon Park areas. Among the notable places of worship is Ohel David Synagogue, situated in the Camp area. Pune Police Commissioner Retesh Kumaarr has issued an immediate directive to elevate security protocols in these regions.

A comprehensive security review was conducted, led by Commissioner Ritesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner Sandeep Karnik, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ramnath Pokle, and DCP (Crime) Amol Zende. The team assessed the current security arrangements and decided to augment infrastructure to further fortify these areas.

Deputy Commissioners of Police from various departments have scrutinized the security measures in place and have directed local police station officials to maintain a heightened state of alert. A meeting with members of the Jewish community was also held to discuss the protection of their places of worship and other community spaces.
