Pune, 21st January 2025: Pune City Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar has ordered a citywide crackdown on illegal Bangladeshi immigrants residing in Pune. The police have initiated a search operation targeting unauthorized foreign nationals across the city.

Kumar has instructed all police station heads to gather information on migrant workers in their jurisdictions and take immediate action if any Bangladeshi infiltrators are found. This comes after recent arrests of illegal Bangladeshi nationals in the city.

In one case, Bund Garden police recently apprehended a Bangladeshi woman near Pune railway station. Shortly after, Swargate police arrested a Bangladeshi man who had been living illegally in the Maharshi Nagar area for the past 10 years. Fake Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, and foreign currency were seized from the man.

The police commissioner has also ordered a search for agents involved in providing fake documents to Bangladeshi infiltrators. Additionally, authorities have been instructed to gather information on outside students and tourists visiting Pune.

Kumar emphasized that illegal residents will face deportation to their home countries. The operation will involve Local Police Stations, the Special Branch, and the Crime Branch.

This crackdown is part of a broader effort to address the issue of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Pune. Over the past five years, Pune City Police have arrested 66 Bangladeshi nationals for residing illegally in the city, though only 8 have been deported so far.

The police are also investigating how these immigrants enter India and obtain fake Indian identity documents. The recent arrests have raised concerns about the network facilitating illegal immigration and the demand for cheap labour driving this trend.
