Pune Police Seizes 17 Pistols and 13 Live Cartridges in a Major Crackdown on Illegal Firearms

Pune, 10th March 2023: In a massive crackdown on illegal firearms, Pune City Police’s Crime Branch recovered 17 pistols and 13 live cartridges from seven accused in separate arrests.

Police Commissioner Retesh Kumaarr, after taking charge, had instructed all police officers to focus on crime control, especially on crimes against body and property, and terrorizing people. Accordingly, the officers were ordered to crack down on the illegal possession and sale of firearms in Pune, conduct patrolling and criminal checking operations, and closely monitor the movement of criminals.

During one such operation, Unit 6 Senior Police Inspector Rajneesh Nirmal and his team caught six accused while they were about to sell police pistols in Wagholi, Pune. The accused were identified as Hanumant Ashok Golhar (24), Pradeep Vishnu Gaikwad (25), Arvind Shriram Potfode (38), Shubham Vishwanath (25), Rishikesh Sudhakar Bagh (25), and Amol Bhausaheb Shinde (25), all residents of Ahmednagar district. A total of 13 country-made pistols, 13 live cartridges, and a Mahindra car, totally worth Rs 21.32 lakh were seized from them. The accused had hidden the firearms in different places, and the police were able to recover them.

In a similar operation, Senior Police Inspector Sandeep Bhosale and his team caught Sahil Tulsiram Chandere alias Teeran (21) in front of Baner Road Sinchan Bhavan. The police searched him and found a country-made pistol worth Rs 60,000 and two live cartridges worth Rs 2,000 in his bag. When questioned, he revealed that he had hidden three more pistols and some live cartridges in a garage on Link Road Pashan, Pune. The police were able to recover the firearms and arrested the accused. In total, four pistols and nine live cartridges worth Rs 2.49 lakh were seized.

The action was taken under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ramnath Pokle, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amol Zende, and ACPs Sunil Pawar and Narayan Shirgaonkar.

The team included sub-inspectors Ashish Kavthekar, Ajay Jadhav, Sunil Kulkarni, Suresh Jaibhai Bhairavnath Shelke, police personnel Machindra Walke, Vittal Khedkar, Ramesh Memane, Kanifnath Karkhele, Balasaheb Sakte, Prateek Lahigude, Nitin Munde, Mohite, Rishikesh Takwane, Rishikesh Vyavahare, Rishikesh Tilekar, Sachin Pawar, Nitin Ghadge, Ashpak Mulani, Jyoti Kale, Suhas Tambekar, Amol Pawar, Imran Sheikh, Anna Mane, Ayyaz Dadikar Mahesh Bamgude, Vitthal Salunkhe, Nilesh Sable, Shubham Desai, and Datta Sonawane.
