Pune Police Use AI to Enforce Traffic Discipline; Implemented on FC Road on Experimental Basis

Shivajinagar, 28th May 2025: Pune Police’s Traffic Branch has started using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enforce traffic discipline, including monitoring no-parking zones, double parking, and traffic disruptions. Implemented on an experimental Proof of Concept (PoC) basis, the system is being tested on the city’s well-known Fergusson College Road (FC Road).
The AI-based Traffic Violation Detection System is being provided by Sensen.ai, a company assisting Pune Police in this initiative. AI-powered cameras will detect vehicles parked in no-parking zones, on main roads, or those obstructing traffic flow for more than three minutes.
Using license plate recognition technology, the system will identify which vehicle committed what violation. These details will be integrated with the existing CCTV challan system, and fines will be issued to offenders accordingly.
A large digital screen has been set up on FC Road to display violations in real-time. Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil stated that this AI-based traffic violation detection system will soon be expanded to other key areas of the city. The system is aimed at improving traffic discipline, and Patil urged citizens to strictly follow traffic rules to avoid penalties.
