Pune Police’s Assistant Sub Inspector Dies Fighting Coronavirus

Pune, May 4, 2020: Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police Dilip Popat Londhe of Pune City Police, today died while undergoing treatment for Coronavirus. He was admitted at Bharati Vidyapeeth Hospital. He is the first casualty in the department due to COVID19.

Londhe was working as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) with Faraskhana Police Station. He was detected with Coronavirus a few days ago. He has been undergoing treatment at Bharati Vidyapeeth Hospital for the last eight days. Meanwhile, he died today around 2 pm while undergoing treatment.

Pune Police Commissioner Dr K Venkatesham tweeted, “Pune Police regrets to inform about the unfortunate demise of ASI Shri Dilip Popat Londhe (57) from Faraaskhana Police Station, who lost his life battling Coronavirus. Our prayers, Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the Londhe family.”

Meanwhile, this is the first case of death due to corona in Pune police force. Earlier, three policemen had died in Mumbai due to the deadly virus. Due to high number of COVID19, the whole area of under jurisdiction Faraskhana police station has been declared containment zone by the Pune Municipal Corporation. A total of nine policemen of Pune city police had got infected with COVID out of which one has recovered and one has died till now.
