Pune Porsche Accident Accused Dr. Ajay Taware Named Co-Accused in Kidney Racket Case

Kalyaninagar, 24th May 2025: Dr. Ajay Taware, currently in judicial custody for his alleged role in the high-profile Kalyaninagar Porsche accident case, has now also been named a co-accused in a kidney transplant racket involving a private hospital. This was confirmed by Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar during a press briefing on Friday.
Dr. Taware, formerly a senior official at Sassoon General Hospital, is presently lodged at Yerwada Central Jail. He had earlier been arrested for allegedly tampering with evidence in the Kalyaninagar case. However, police investigations have now revealed his alleged involvement in a separate case of illegal organ transplants being probed by the Koregaon Park Police.
“A probe committee headed by a retired judge was constituted to investigate the kidney racket following a complaint registered at Koregaon Park Police Station,” said Commissioner Kumar. “The committee submitted its findings to the state government, which established Dr. Taware’s role in the case. He will now be officially named as a co-accused.”
The kidney racket came to light after police received a complaint regarding illegal financial transactions during a transplant procedure. Further investigations exposed a network involving private hospital staff, brokers, donors, and recipients. In total, 15 individuals have been charged based on a complaint filed by Dr. Sanjog Sitaram Kadam, Deputy Director of the Health Services Board.
During the Kalyaninagar probe, investigators examined Dr. Taware’s past conduct and uncovered documents linking him to the transplant scam. He reportedly served as the head of an eight-member transplant approval committee at the time the illegal activities were carried out, and allegedly attempted to cover his involvement.
Authorities have indicated that further legal proceedings are expected in both cases as investigations continue to develop.
