Pune Porsche Accident Case: Police To Challenge Minor’s Release Order In Supreme Court
Pune, 1st July 2024: The Maharashtra state home department granted permission on Saturday for Pune police to approach the Supreme Court to challenge the Bombay High Court’s June 25 order, which directed the release of a 17-year-old involved in the May 19 Porsche Taycan crash from an observation home.
The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) released the teenager after the May 19 accident but later reversed its decision after police appealed. The teenager’s aunt had filed a habeas corpus petition in the high court. On June 25, the high court ordered the teenager’s release from the observation home, declaring that the JJB’s decision to reverse the bail and extend his remand was illegal and beyond its jurisdiction.
The incident in question occurred around 2:30 am on May 19 in Kalyani Nagar, when the teenager, allegedly driving a Porsche Taycan under the influence, collided with a motorcycle. The accident resulted in the deaths of two IT engineers from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, who were riding the motorcycle.
